Different Types Of Grain Level Indicators

By Krystal Branch

Farmers need a wide range of facilities and equipment to get their work done easier and accurately. Some of these important facilities and equipment include silos and elevators. Silos are manufactured in a wide range of sizes as well as from different materials. There are various grain level indicators made for farmers to use when determining the amount of grains in their silos.

Rotary paddle bin indicator is made with a rotating motor that turns the paddle on the produce. When in use, the paddle indicator turns freely if your silo is not full and switches off when the silo is full. This enables the farmer to know the condition of their silos in order to take the appropriate solution.

The tilt switch mercury-free indicator operates on the use of a remote control. This indicator works to automatically alert farmers in case their silos are filled up. You need to control it as it moves through the storage area using the remote in order to ensure it can notify the farmer if the silo is filled up.

The tilt mercury detector comes with a wired control unit or a remote control for controlling it. It is usually designed in such a way that, it would alert the user if the store has some storage space. It also retains the condition and state of the mercury when the store is full to ensure the user would determine what to do concerning the condition of his or her silo.

Mechanical level indicator comes with mechanical moving parts. When moved through the store, a steel ball on the detector would depress the electrical switch once the store is filled up. Whenever the silo is not filled up, this detector would just remain on the same position which is resting over the electrical switch. This product is usually cheap and can be found in various designs.

Other popular detectors are the weight and cable sensors that work by measuring the distance moved by the cable in the store. After the distance is obtained it is then transmitted into a control unit using a digital connection control mechanism. This system uses such measurements to digitally access the free storage area in such silos.

Farmers can also use the ultrasound continuous sensor which is made to access the silo space by measuring the time taken by the flight sound. The device is made to work without coming into contact with the store products. When determining the flight time however, the sound may be soaked up by the internal silo dust, which can affect the time taken to notify the farmer about the storage space in their store.

Grain level indicators are essential devices for anyone looking to control the operation of his or her silo by frequently checking at the condition of such silos. These devices come in a variety of options giving you a wide variety to choose from. It is always essential to determine the benefits and downsides of using each of the above detectors to ensure you can choose the best one.
