Choosing A Good Camera Mount For Motorcycle

By Elsa Noel

Riding is always fun. At one time or another, you may want to keep in memory of the exhilarating moments on your bike. While having a quality video recorder for such occasions is mandatory, so is getting a suitable camera mount for motorcycle. Depending on your budget and preferences, there are various types of gadgets that you can use, all of which have their advantages and limitations.

The most common are helmet mounts. These usually have straps that are either passed around the dome or through the holes of helmets. An advantage of these devices is that the camera can shift places of focus with the change in position of the head. They are also less subjected to vibration and therefore produce relatively stable scenery. They can however pose challenges to somebody who has no experience in using them.

Placing the cameras for example to focus at a particular point is hard especially since you cannot monitor them while they are recording on your head. Anyway, these tools are cheaper and more available and so learning to use them would be very beneficial. Handlebar mounts are usually good for situations where the user wants full control over what is being recorded.

Since the device is at your arms reach, a flexible holder can let you twist your device to any direction. You can also operate your video recorder seamlessly for instance switching between active and standstill mode. The problem with these however is that they cannot fully absorb the vibration at the handle bar. They can however do well when the motorbike is not too shaky and is running on a smooth road.

One main problem with handle bar mounts is vibration. A video recorded on a rough road may not be very pleasant to watch. Things get worse if the motorbike engine throb is not well absorbed by the body. If you however have a less shaky engine and are running on a smooth tarmac, this device suits you best.

If especially the user is running on a rough ground, the video might be too shaky and not worth watching. But if the road is smooth and your bike engine does not cause much quiver on the body, then you can make good companions with these. Suction cup mounts are also a favorite for many. The vacuum created between the cup and the surface it is attached to makes a strong grip between the two.

With their high flexibility, one can film almost all directions. They also keep the camera at your reach therefore enabling you to easily conduct real time monitoring of the recording process. Too long arms are however looked down upon due to their high vibration. On the other hand, very short bars may also fail to raise the camcorder high enough to avoid capturing parts of your bike.

Buying genuine products will also help you to avoid risks associated with poorly manufactured ones. Try to go for reputable brands so that you avoid the dangers associated with fake products. Poorly designed cameras and mounts can cost you in the long run. The cameras may break down frequently and you might have to replace them often.
