China is a product that is a chemical combination of feldspar, kaolin, clay and quartz. However, other inclusions may be added considering the desired outcome and the quality of the materials used. After the raw materials are mixed and prepared well, the products are them molded and refined to produce suitable products. They are then taken through a process of firing at a controlled and specified temperature for a few hours.

The manufacturer defines the number of firings, therefore, attaining the desired enamel finishing. The body of the products becomes vitrified after completing the process of firing. The items are at the top of the ceramics considering their delicate beauty. Extreme care and skills are applied in their manufacture. They are only delicate in appearance, but they are unyielding and resistant to chipping and abrasion. These properties are achieved through controlled firing temperatures. This also makes the products white, smooth and lustrous.

In the production of bone china, calcified bones are used as raw materials, and the firing temperature is set to a lower scale as compared to the aforementioned process. The bone type is thinner, and the glaze is more smooth than the porcelain type. However, the glaze is softer than the porcelain enamel making it less durable. The process starts the same way, but for the bone type, there is an additional ingredient, bone ash.

The bone ash is a powdery substance that is a product of incinerated animal bones. It gives the body of the plate a milky color. It adds translucency to the material used to make the dinnerware and also makes the dish stronger. The bone ash makes the dinnerware resilient and less brittle.
