If an inexperienced person in charge of marketing or promotion is wondering why they are not able to generate new business, it is obviously time for a new approach. There are many effective ways to drum up customers but what some tend to forget is to not become complacent, even when business is good. Unique marketing giveaways are one way to find out the customer buying habits, along with other information that can be detrimental to sales.

One of those factors is that more people are relying on technology to get through the day. Some may even find that their customers seldom make a move without their smartphone. So chances are strong that they will have little need for a bulky desk calendar unless it is known that they love animals or pictures of landscapes.

However, this is not the case with all, as some still rely on paper products to run an office efficiently. While electronic reminders are nice, having something that does not have to be charged and easy to transport is ideal. What most office workers and few others like to have on their desks is something that is useful but does not take up a lot of space. Instead of having multiple highlighting markers floating around, having a single unit that fits in most pockets will be appreciated.

Cross promotions with non competing companies are becoming more acceptable by the day. New business owners find this type of relationship can present many benefits down the road. Besides sales, aligning with a brand that offers quality or another intangible asset can help raise the profile of the newer company looking to make a name for themselves.

This can also be essential when choosing a loss leader item as part of a bundle. Oftentimes, the winning combination is throwing in a discount on a future purchase. Most clients may find that the possibility of receiving a gift card or other prize is too much to resist, especially if may be applied to an online purchase.

One trend that is growing sales is event marketing. By creating an exclusive event that is reserved for those in a special group, like rewards customers, these can drive sales on items that are not yet ready for inventory removal. This method is also successful for approaching companies that are new to the area.

Although some visitors may enjoy the refreshments served at live events, virtual events can be just as profitable and popular. Most of these are the most successful when there is an active promotional presence. Online merchants may create a themed sales event as a way to clear their inventory and get new ideas for products that are likely to be fast sellers.

Creating a giveaway program can be fun when planned correctly. Taking a hard look at technology, customer needs, and other trends will ensure some level of success, even if the findings reveal that a major change is necessary for long term survival. While most see radical change as a reason to throw in the towel, others revel at the challenge of having a second, or another, start.
