The Finer Points Of A Show Quality Havanese

By John Williams

Dogs are generally seen as the best friend of mankind. Descending from domesticated wolves, dogs have proven to be loyal and loving to a fault. Throughout history, dogs have not only been members of the family, but also invaluable workers, helping ensure continued human survival. In return people have taken them is as pets. Lots of people want a puppy, and a show quality Havanese might be the right choice for some.

Dogs are generally cute. People think they are. Anyone who stays on the internet long enough will probably end up getting inundated with pictures of cute puppies. They are also loyal, almost to a fault, and will defend their families from pretty much anything and everything. There have even been cases of canines being so loyal that they refuse to leave the graves of their owners.

Dogs have proven to have numerous uses throughout the generations. First and foremost, they are companions. They are family members. Then there is the fact that they are great for protection, as they can often be trained to be somewhat wary of any perceived threats. Then there is the prestige of certain animals, the ones who win medals at competitions.

When it comes to a show dog, breeding is everything. Having a lineage from a known winner can be the difference. Judges are subjective, and people like legacy. Which means that a good performance and an emphasis on the bloodline can sway scores in their favor. Now, that also means that a performance that is only decent can sway scores against them, as there is going to be some level of expectation considering the bloodline.

To make sure that the pedigree is every bit as prestigious as a breeder claims, all one has to do is ask the right questions. Then verify those answers by using the internet. Because the results of things like competitions are not state secrets, they will be on the internet for everyone to see.

The place where the scores matter is the dog show. That is where the best bred canines will compete for scores. In the end, the animal with the best combined scores will get either a medal or a trophy. Some of the shows will then breed the winners, in order to produce even more winners.

Training is going be very important. The way to win is to have a good routine. That routine is not going to be implanted into the dog by magic. It is going to take some very rigorous training, which is why a good trainer, who can come up with a good routine and then implant it in the animal, will be needed.

Grooming is also important. If the dog is dirty and mangy, then no judge is going to give them the win. The shows are as much about looks as they are about performance. Which means a visit to the groomer is going to be necessary.

Raising a puppy is not easy task. But some of them will be easier than others. Now, certain breeds will be better suited to certain tasks than other breeds.
