By Kathleen Brooks

Drug adherence is essential when a patient is trying to control any diseases. This ranges from conditions that have no cure such as HIV and AIDS, to short term diseases like when one is taking antibiotics to prevent bacterial infections. Being in constant connection with the care provider helps a sick person to ensure that they are taking their medication has required. Social Researcher institutions have been trying to come up with medical compliance solutions.

Since drug compliance is essential when trying to find the treatment or manage an illness. Health care systems have invested time and financial resources in employing counselors. The therapists help in explaining to the clients the importance of drug adherence towards managing an infection. For the medication to be effective one should ensure that they are taking the drugs as recommended by the doctor.

Immediately after diagnosis, a patient should go through to a series of classes aimed at addressing the disease. After the equipping an individual with the necessary information, they get the opportunity to make personal decisions concerning the type of medication they prefer. A client chooses how and when to take medication.

Failure to give information on the side effects of the diseases usually makes the client feel that the medication is not working and can decide to stop treatment. For this reason, it is generally advisable that the physician provides sufficient information regarding the drug. The care provider should give a client an alternative form medication if the effects become severe.

Physicians are often advised to use simple language when giving information concerning the disease to the client. This because using complex terms makes the client to feel that the disease is acute. When an individual understands a diseases better they are able to rule out myths and misconceptions of the disease. Hence developing a positive attitude towards fighting the disease.

Patients can develop trust and emotional attachments towards their physicians. Trust is essential towards achieving treatment. This is because it enables a client to open up to the physician and by doing so they can inform the caregiver about different personal issues concerning the disease. Therefore, the hospital management should come up with a way of advising the clients early enough before the changes occur.

Social researchers have come up with different approaches to ensure drug adherence. This includes doing extensive research on getting information concerning patient drug use from people who have close relationships with them like a family member, friends, and physicians. Other methods include counting the drugs and keeping a record of the same to determine if the patient is taking the medication as required.

Socioeconomic factors can also result in a patient not taking medication as advised by the doctors. The high cost of drugs such as diabetic drugs can result in a client stopping the pill for some time. This is due to lack of finance needed for buying the drugs. Other factors include lack of money to do hospital visits and lack of support from family and friends. The authorities should come up with ways of providing economic empowerment to assist clients in dealing with these problems.
