The Problem With Buying Ground Routes For Sale

By Christopher Bennett

When it comes to careers, individuals have a lot of choices. In one case, that can be as a FedEx truck owner. Whether contracting or owning a truck, this can often be a great business. Although, when buying Ground routes for sale, individuals need to be cautious so as not to be scammed.

One new owner said the route had been purchased without any assistance a few years ago. The former owner provided documentation and proof of income. While this is the case, the buyer, a former finance manager was still scammed when purchasing the route.

When considering the purchase an owner absent route, it is important to remember that just because this is the case does not mean the business is successful. As such, if individuals are involved in the buying and selling of ground routes, it should be noted that the path can often be extremely treacherous. For, even with a background in finance, buyers are still being scammed.

While sounding like a great way to make living and has been for a number of people, buyers need understand that there is no clear way to know how much money can be made in this type of business. As a result, sellers will often focus on proof of income and tax documents. While in most cases, the paperwork is accurate, the information does not reflect the pay for drivers, bookkeeping and other costs. Whereas, sales history information is rarely provided unless specifically requested by an interested buyer.

Sellers can also be misleading when it comes to how much time an owner will need to put into a business so that it runs correctly. While being successful is important, running the business correctly is a must in order to do so. As such, it is important to pay close attention to the word correctly when negotiating the purchase and sale of a driving route.

While owning an absentee business may sound attractive, any business can actually be run in this manner. In most cases, those lacking oversight by an owner are not going to be as successful as otherwise. Whereas, if the owner is sitting at home contemplating life or getting wasted, then decides to resell the business due to a lack of profit or other issue, businesses can often go into bankruptcy proceedings rather quickly.

With that being said, there are good people selling profitable routes. Buyers just need to vet all aspects of ownership before buying or contracting a route from another individual. Otherwise, it can often be a disappointing and costly experience. As such, when asking for owner name, license number, operating expenses, employee names, payroll information, tax documents and other materials, be sure and also ask for sales history report.

The bottom line, sellers will do almost anything to convince buyers a business is a legitimate owner absent opportunity. If this is the case, sellers will not have a problem providing any information requested by buyers, including current operating expenses, outstanding loans, payroll, employee names and references. If an individual denies to provide such information, it is most likely a good time to walk away.
