How To Do Wood Floor Refinishing

Wood floor refinishing is normally done to restore wooden flooring that has been damaged. If you have the right skills, this is a do it yourself work. However if you are not, it is advisable to look for a professional to avoid causing more problems than good. To start with, one need to carry out an estimate of cost, time as well as materials.

To many people, it is easy to refinish your room by paying attention on details. For example, one must sand flooring material using drum sanders. A belt sander is used to finish this procedure, but this has to be hired from the local hardware. When preparing for this procedure, consider safety accessories like dust mask. This prevents effects to your body.

When sanding your wooden room, makes sure to control the sander. One must ensure sanding material is on the move at all time. The sanders are easy to use, but they might be unpleasant to your ears. Because of friction created when sanding wooden flooring, one has to continue carrying out the process to avoid overdoing one area at the expense of others. This gives a perfect finish.

Home owner are always expected to remove carpet material used to cover a room that is to be worked on. Care should be exercised at this juncture since some carpets are fixed using glue so to avoid damaging them, care is a must. This particular step is important since removing the floor covering will expose the damages and necessary repair is done.

Take out a sharp knife and scrap any padding. To prevent damage, make sure that you are moving the knife following the grain direction. Take caution to avoid scratching and gouging the top badly. Remove the remaining shreds off wooden floor. If possible carry out padding process. You need staple pliers for removing staples used in fastening wooden pieces. Unsightly steel stapling units cause injuries when left unattended.

After you have removed all wooden pads, start the sanding procedure. You can purchase the sanding material from the local hardware. In order to have a good finishing, buy three grades of sanding materials which are the 80, 150 and 220 grits. When sanding use these sanding materials in that order and make sure to reach the corners.

Sanding procedure will generate a lot of debris and dust. So use a vacuum cleaner and a tacking cloth to clean them. After that, you need to repeat the process again and this time round be sure to reach to the corner and joints. Then, using tack clothes clean debris that has been generated. Once that has been done, it is now time to spread the staining mixture in circles. You have to make sure you follow the manufacturers direction. Apply a standard buffer after staining to remove stains.

Take the polyurethane mixture then spread on top of the coat. Use a moping rug to do this. To have a nice finish, do the job starting from one corner to the other towards the door. Finish this and wait for the polyurethane to dry, and then apply another coat. This gives your flooring wooden material a good finish. After carrying out wood floor refinishing, allow three days before use.
