This leaves many people seeking alternative ways of creating income and temporary employment or temporary work has proven to be very useful that far. In temporary employment, workers are hired on a short term basis to do work for a payment in accordance to the needs of the organization offering the job. Companies that retain temps are called temp agencies, temporary work agencies, or staffing firms. Corporate or individual clients who need temporary workers usually seek staffing firms for a contract. The client specifies the assignment and the agency sends workers to complete it. Workers who hold such employment are referred by different names in different places. Some commonly used names are casual staff, freelance, interim, outsourcing, contractual, or temps. The agencies first understand various aspects of a job whenever they are contacted by a client to determine the skill level needed, terms of service, and nature of work.

However, the client employer reserves the right to terminate the assignment any time and if the temp does not perform as expected, the employer can file a complaint with the agency. Work schedules depend on the assignment in question. Assignments can be extended or shortened according to the needs of the client employer. The nature of these assignments makes incentive to offer benefits to be low as well as the pay, especially if labor flexibility is high.

The duration of each assignment varies. If a temp is not comfortable with a job, they are free to reject it. However, they may run the risk of going for long without works. This is because agencies do not create jobs but only assign them. Having a reputation of refusing jobs is not good in this industry.

Information regarding the job, work attire, wages, and work hours among other aspects is provided to temps in advance. Agency representative are usually available to each temp to handle any concerns regarding work. Temps usually contact their representatives if discrepancies ion jobs or other issues arise.
