Over the last several years I have collaborated with several product managers in high-tech companies. It became evident to me that all good product managers share a set of qualities that I will show you with this article.

Learn about the consumer: You are developing a product for a customer segment. Ensure that you know the wants of the segment. What you must be aware of are: a) who urges him or her to consider the product. b) their purchase triggers. c) their ability to pull out their wallets. d) what delights them. This will assist you form your product requirements and also validate your business case.

Have your 1, 3, and 5 minute product sales pitches memorized: You never know who you could see at the water cooler, the lunch or the elevator buffet. It is vital for a product manager to gather broad support for the product in the enterprise. So make sure you can pitch your products and the areas you could use help from the top of your head.
