Information On Essential Dishwasher Parts

By Elena McDowell

Having a dishwasher in a kitchen is the greatest kitchen appliance one can decide to have. This appliance simplifies the work of washing dishes and no matter the schedule a person has; he or she can now find time to do the dishes. Washing utensils has never been this easier. Even though many people perceive this machine as being complex, it is not. Learning about the different dishwasher parts will therefore help such people understand the functionality of this equipment.

The main parts that enable this equipment to function are; the pump, intake valve and control mechanism. As its name suggests, control mechanism practically controls the whole functioning of the machine. It is found behind the control and can either be computerized or electro mechanical system. Usually buying the type that has a computerized system is expensive as compared to the other.

When it comes to the intake valve, this one is connected to main water supply of a house and it supplies the water to the equipment. The pump then does the work of pumping. It first pumps water to spray arm of the machine when one is washing and after that it takes the used water to the drain pipe. Other than these three major parts, there are other supporting parts that still play a major role in functioning of this equipment.

To start the list is the dish rack and this one provides a place where the utensils will be put during washing. The heating element is also found in the machine and heats water used for cleaning to the right temperature. Hot water is essential in proper cleaning as it removes all food substances on utensils and also the odor from the items.

Detergent dispenser is yet the other important part in this machine. This part is where a user places the detergent to be used in washing and it dispenses the detergent only when one is washing. The machine also has the air gap which prevents seeping of waste back into the system. It is usually found under the sink near the valve and can be unscrewed and cleaned regularly.

Switches and latches can also be found on the dishwasher and include the following; door switches and knobs, selector switches and handle latches. These ones have to be maintained properly. A timer is also present and it controls the time the equipment is operating. When it goes off early or late or does not work at all then this means it has a problem.

These different parts of the washer can be damaged or broken. The dish rack is the easily damaged part and this often occurs by placing wrong dish onto the wrong rack. Therefore when the item is broken it will need to be repaired or replaced depending on the damage. People should thus take proper care when handling this appliance.

For people wondering what to do when dishwasher parts are damaged, two things can be done. Either a person can repair the damage on his own if the damage is small and the person is capable of repairing. The other option is to simply get a professional repair person to do the work. As to the places to buy the items that will need replacing one can go to a local household store.
