Dress Up That Dining Space With Unique Table Linens

By Ronald Ellis

As an alternative to visiting a restaurant, more people are honing their cooking skills and entertaining at home. While comfortable, most want to ensure that the atmosphere is just as pleasing as the meal itself. One way to make dining spaces easier on the eye is to add unique table linens and accessories that complement the dish.

The best choice for table dressings is those that fit the dining area or space where the food and drink serving will take place. Anyone who wants to learn more can check out the many books and magazines that can provide ideas on how to set up a table for every occasion. Sometimes a contrast of colors or pattern theme may be a good start.

Although some people may be tempted to go with dark colors to disguise food stains, there are alternates that look good with cream or neutral tones. Fuchsia, kelly green and deep violet are choices that can serve a dual responsibility. With a vibrant linen color, having an elaborate centerpiece may be overkill.

Sometimes the wow factor is apropos if the theme is one of excitement or glamour. This may entail experimenting with reptilian patterns, shimmery fabrics, or silky textures that bring a look of elegance. Depending on the theme, having matching accessories and other visuals may complement the look of the food display or serving area.

For anyone who is stuck or has a small budget to work with, there are some solutions that will not break the bank. Getting table linen that is not a light color may be a sensible choice. If children are going to be present, then it helps to not have any embellishments that dangle or can easily get caught on clothing.

Additionally, centerpieces should not block access to food, drinks, or eating utensils. The best way to anchor a container holding flowers or other decoration is to load with coins or other objects that will give it weight. This way, it can stay in place if a person were to give it a slight bump.

Where to place items logically can be challenging to someone who does not do this for a living. Sometimes a food display can look so good that guests may not want to touch it, or it may be difficult to not make a mess. One way to prevent this is to place small items in its own container, if possible.

The great thing about a table setting is that fancy decor is not needed to make it attractive. Sometimes, inexpensive flowers that match the table accessories can be a nice touch. The same applies to the serving dishes used. One frugal tip is to create a house drink, with or without alcohol, that is an unusual or bright color.

Party planning can be fun for those who like the preparation and socializing with others. At the same time, there are options for hosts so that gatherings are free of stress and worry. If a person becomes overwhelmed, they can always enlist friends or close family members to help out.
