Exactly Why Do The Ladies Make Less On The Job When Compared With What Guys Can?

Equality of both genders is one thing that people today are thankful for. However, despite all these, there are still a few places where equality of genders is not maintained - one of which is in the workplace. One obvious issue about this is the pay rates of men and women. women are just paid less. In 2001, the GAO or Government Accountability Office made a report that the total weekly earnings of women were only about 75% of what men were earning. For every dollar which a man is earning at work, a woman only makes about 80 cents - this has been going on for decades since women started working.

So what brings about the huge difference in what women are earning compared to that of men? Here now are the reasons why the male gender tend to make a bigger amount of money than what women can.

Time commitment for work

One that is seen to affect the earnings of both genders is the time which they commit to work. In a whole year, with regard to the genders women are more prone to lesser attendance at work. Also, there is a great likelihood that women would not stay for long in one job or would not see themselves grow with a certain job especially when it is not designed for women.

In addition to this, women with their own families tend to have a dual role especially when they are mothering children. With the less time that can be spent at work to attend to other commitments, their wages can be affected. Unlike men with families or kids, they are actually inspired to work for more hours in order to provide for their families.

Wrong job

One more significant element that affects earnings at work for both genders is their choice in careers. In this regard, women who work jobs that require strength and endurance would be less likely to make more money than men. More often than not, there are also a lot of jobs that does not require much muscle and need more knowledge but still have the female gender earn less. Regardless if the job requires strength or just brains, there will still be times when an employee should undergo overtime or extended hours of work which is also pretty much tiring and stressful. Honestly speaking, when it comes to handling tedious as well as brain draining jobs men are more reliable thus paid more and can earn more.

Employer?s preference

One more culprit as to why women these days earn less income than men is the preference of the employer. As business owners, they have their own right to have gender preferences with regard to hiring their employees or staff. The main reason why employers sometimes prefer certain genders for certain jobs is that this has been proven effective based on experience and also because quality as well as production can have better chances for a specific gender.

There are still a few more reasons why women are earning less at work as compared to the male gender. Equality is indeed practiced today however there will always be certain areas where the female gender are treated at a lower level - one of which areas is the workplace. Nevertheless, this should not discourage any woman to work or think that they will be paid less. What a woman should just bear in mind is that the female gender are more detail-oriented as well as can come up with the best quality or products or work - which becomes an edge to the male gender.
