Points On How Many Americans Are Unemployed

By Amy Peterson

With the US having a new president top of his agenda is to deal with trade issues and give people jobs. The rate of people without jobs in the US keep rising and falling and this issue has not been stabilized for a long time. A lot of people wonder how many Americans are unemployed and if it is because they have chosen to or circumstances have forced them.

If one was to look at the group of people between 18-40 years are very few in the job market. This is the group that is termed to be more active in helping in economic growth. However the older generation has chosen to stay home and take care of their families while the young ones are focusing on furthering their studies instead of tarmacking.

These youths have turned to studying because they have given up on looking for a job because they are not readily available. This category however not only contain youths but also older ones who are dissatisfied with their jobs trying to look for a better place. They end up being termed as dropouts because it gets to a point that they stop looking.

Another category that is sometimes ignored or never counted is for the missing workers. These are people who have gotten job opportunities that are not good enough for them. When people feel like the opportunity they have is weaker than their qualification they choose not to work. They should also be counted to get the total number of people without jobs.

Missing workers being the largest pool means that they could either pull the economy up or down depending on how the job opportunities are presented to them. To get the specific number or percentage they should be categorized in terms of gender and age to make the exercise simpler. These are the people who weaken the economy for choosing not to work.

There is a rate of people who have a part time job and could be termed as jobless too. If anything can happen they would remain without a source of income just like everyone else. If asked they would love to get a full job but for some reasons like the few openings they are not in a position to get a slot. Personal business are pushed out of the market due to high taxes.

There is that group of people that has been looking for jobs for way too long and have been termed as long term jobless people. By long term it means a person who has been looking for a job without succeeding for over one year. Most people in this category are the people in the middle class. They end up not moving forward thus the economy remains stagnant.

It should not be the question of the exact number of people who remain without jobs but people should focus on the reasons that are leading to the increased rates of joblessness. Workers need to be given special attention because they are the ones who can strengthen or weaken the economy. The government should use a different perspective to know how to help its people.
