Knowing About The Different Roles Of A Construction Scheduler

By Ann Long

The construction project management or the CPM is a process for coordinating, controlling, and planning for a project. Scheduling and planning are the two important processes in the construction management. These 2 can be able top help the engineers to complete the projects in a given time and also with having the right budget. All of the factors are aiming to meet the requirements of clients in producing the projects that are financially viable and functionally viable.

The word construction does not only concern on the physical activities that are involving the materials, machinery, and men but also involves the overall scope of activities which is from the beginning up to the completion. When scheduling the project, the construction scheduler Fresno is very important. The roles that are fulfilled by the scheduler will change from time to time during the progress or cycle of a project.

The three phases or roles are execution scheduling, performance control, and commitment planning. First is the commitment planning or feasibility planning. This is a phase where in the scheduler meds to work with his or her team to plan for this. Developing the strategies for delivery and to gain consensus will be done here. Generally, the schedulers are sometimes called time management expert.

Second phase, the execution planning. Schedule development for the implementation is done in this role. The schedulers will facilitate the assembling information of the roles and also the sub contractors. Their role in this phase is integrating and testing the information which is being given by the team for the logic, common sense, and completeness through asking some questions. They also are responsible for schedule data and scheduling tools integrity.

Third is performance control. For the projects execution, the role of a scheduler is support. He or she will be maintaining the schedule, will be optimizing the change outcomes, and will be advising the team about the performance. The mechanisms in which they will maintain the schedule are the status and the update of processes. They must always be alert whenever there are changes that can influence the outcomes.

Aside from the phases, some other roles include time budgeter, cost saver, process and project facilitator, and minimize the risks. The role of facilitator may involve the creation and establishment of projects from start to end. Knowing all technical details of the aspects is important for them.

Another role is development and management of time budgets. This can be done by working with their team and estimating the overall duration of project and components. An execution schedule identifies all critical paths to ensure an efficient and cost effective work flow.

At the start of projects, the schedulers will need to assist for ensuring the establishment of realistic and achievable end dates. They should also provide warnings whenever the work is already behind the schedule. Thus, they must inform the manager for any relocations for enabling the late works be caught up.

Lastly is the cost saver. They are being considered as the key for the optimization of costs. Only if the projects are completed in the right time, it remains viable and profitable. So the roles are to set up, plan, develop, and conceive the projects value.
