Eligibility And Reimbursement Conditions For Funeral Benefits

By Arthur Brooks

Your family is facing a difficult and tiring time right now. Emotional turmoil is still present in your hearts due to the passing of a loved one. You and anyone who knew him will always remember that he had lived a life full of fulfillment. Due to this, the federal and state governments have made the veteran funeral benefits Texas available to you.

It is under the regulation of the VA or Department of Veterans Affairs to manage the burial benefits and its monetary allowance to families of military officers who recently passed. The TVC or Texas Veterans Commission, along with State of Texas, will provide the assistance in claiming the benefit. Any surviving family members, dependent children, or you can make the request to avail this benefit.

All details necessary will be known to you post haste. The TVC has provided a brochure for you. Here, you are made aware of basic information that you will need in order to get the said benefit. This brochure outlines the details for eligibility, process of reimbursements, military honors, VA headstones and markers, and more.

Firstly, you must ensure that you are eligible in order to be recognized by the VA. Your loved one should either be discharged from active duty or died while in active duty. His spouse and dependent children, if any, are also recognized to be eligible by law. If he is discharged, his reason for his removal and resignation from the military should not be dishonorable.

Eligibility qualifications also have other conditions aside from those two. If between September 7, 1980 and October 16, 1981, he was enlisted and an officer, respectively, for a minimum service of 24 consecutive months, then he is considered qualified. If he was a Filipino veteran who had served during World War II or an American Merchant Marines serving between December 1941 and 1946 and has met the general requirements for eligibility, then you can get the benefits for burial and memorial.

Once eligible, you can now be entitled to file a reimbursement claim for the burial expenses you incurred. However, you should know that they may only pay a portion of that amount. You have to pass and meet any enlisted conditions. Your monetary allowance will be based on which condition is applied to him.

You will receive two thousand dollars if his death occurred while in active service. The VA will arrange for transporting his remains in the event that he was overseas at the time. They will place the remains at the nearby cemetery from the family home. Any cost incurred during transport is shouldered by them as well. You will not have to worry about filing the claims at the moment since the VA allows unlimited time for those who died while in service.

If he was discharged and was entitled to receive his pension or compensation, you will be given three hundred dollars. Eligibility for reimbursement can happen when his death occurred at any VA facility, VA contracted nursing home, or state veteran nursing home. If this is the case, they will pay the cost of transportation. You have to note that non service deaths are to be filed within two years after the burial.

If you decided to bury him in a cemetery that is not under the United States jurisdiction, a plot allowance is given amounting to $749. You are entitled to this amount only when he died in any facility owned by VA, a recipient of compensation or pension except military pay. It also is required that had been discharged due to aggravation during active duty or to disability.
